Air Source Heat Pumps

Air source heat pumps absorb heat from the outside air, through a process similar to how your fridge works, using that energy to heat your radiators, underfloor heating system and hot water in your home.
These can work in temperatures as low as -20°C using only the electricity needed to run making them very low in carbon emissions.

Grant Aerona Heat Pump

The Aerona Heat Pump is an air to water system which utilises heat energy captured from the air in “wet” heating system radiators or underfloor heating. To do this a refrigerant inside the heat pump with a low boiling point is exposed to external air temperatures in an evaporator. The liquid boils in the outside area and becomes a gas absorbing the latent heat energy of the air in the process. This gas is then compressed further increasing the heat content in the refrigerant, before passing through a heat exchanger where it condenses back to a liquid state while transferring the heat to the water of the heating system. The liquid refrigerant is then re-circulated through the evaporator and the cycle is repeated. This process is entirely renewable and helps reduce the amount of greenhouses gases being released into the atmosphere and the carbon footprint of the household.

With three different sizes of Grant Aerona³ heat pumps available (6kW, 10kW and 16kW) it is important that they are sized correctly to your home. Our engineers carry out a site survey to determine the heat loss from your home and the heat pump required to satisfy your requirements. The following are not appropriate for measuring the heat loss calculation:

  • Output of existing/previous gas or oil fired boiler
  • Estimation based on floor area or building volume
  • Use of a simple heat loss calculator
  • Energy Saving Trust’s “Whole House Boiler Sizing” calculation method
