Up to £9,000 Through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The government wants to help homeowners switch to cleaner, more efficient heating and right now, the grants available are more generous than they’ve ever been. If you’re thinking about replacing your oil, gas or LPG heating system, you could be eligible for up to £9,000 toward the cost of a new heat pump.

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (known as the BUS) is a UK government grant designed to help homeowners replace fossil fuel heating with a low-carbon alternative. It’s been running since 2022 and has recently been expanded, with higher grant amounts now available for households currently on oil or LPG.
Here’s what’s currently on offer:
- Up to £9,000 toward an air source or ground source heat pump for homes currently on oil or LPG heating (available until 31 March 2027)
- Up to £7,500 toward an air source or ground source heat pump for homes on gas or electric heating
- £2,500 toward an air-to-air heat pump
- £5,000 toward a biomass boiler for eligible rural properties off the gas grid
The grant is deducted directly from your installation invoice, so you never handle the money yourself. You simply pay the balance. Heat pump installations also benefit from zero VAT, which makes the saving even more significant.
Do I qualify?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is open to most homeowners in England and Wales and there’s no income threshold. It doesn’t matter what you earn. The main things to check are:
- Your property is in England or Wales
- You’re replacing a fossil fuel system – oil, gas, LPG, or direct electric heating
- Your property is a home or small non-domestic building
- You use an MCS-certified installer to carry out the work
That last point is where we come in. As an MCS-certified business, we’re one of the approved installers who can submit grant applications on your behalf. You don’t need to do a thing.

We know the grant process can sound daunting. It really isn’t, especially when you’ve got someone who’s done it many times before handling it for you. Here’s what the journey looks like:
1. Free heating assessment
We visit your home, take a look at your current system, and work out what would suit your property best. There’s no obligation and no cost.
4. The grant comes off your invoice
Once approved, the grant is deducted directly from the cost of your installation. Simple.
2. We recommend the right system
Not every home is right for every heat pump. We’ll give you honest advice on the best option for your property, your lifestyle and your budget including whether you’re eligible for the grant.
5. We install, commission and certify
Our engineers carry out the full installation, commission the system, and leave you confident in how it works. We’re here for any questions after the job is done too.
3. We submit the application
As your MCS-certified installer, we handle all the Ofgem paperwork on your behalf. You don’t need to fill in a single form.

Do I have to apply for the grant myself?
No. As your MCS-certified installer, we manage the entire Boiler Upgrade Scheme application on your behalf. You don’t need to contact Ofgem or fill in any forms.
How long does the process take?
From your initial assessment through to a completed installation, the typical timeline is around 9 to 14 weeks. It can be faster in quieter periods — getting in touch sooner rather than later always helps.
I’m on a gas boiler, can I still apply?
Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers gas, oil, LPG, and electric heating replacements. The grant amount varies depending on what you’re replacing, but most homeowners will be eligible for something.
Is there a deadline?
The scheme is currently confirmed until the end of 2027, and the higher £9,000 grant for oil and LPG homes runs until 31 March 2027. Government schemes can change, so the sooner you look into it the better.
Will a heat pump actually work in my home?
That depends on your property and we’d never recommend one if it wasn’t the right fit. Our free assessment looks at your home’s heat demand, insulation and existing system to make sure we’re recommending something that will genuinely perform well for you.
What if I don’t qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
There may be other options available, including the Warm Homes: Local Grant for lower-income households. Get in touch and we’ll talk through what’s available.
